Foreigner

Foreigner, 1978. The album title was Double Vision and the song by the same name hit number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I was a mere fawn when the album came out, but I always thought the lyrics were strange.

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision

Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me

My double vision always seems to get the best of me, the best of me,     yeah

Well of course double vision gets the best of a person. It is very unsettling to wake up to double vision especially as a side effect of a new medication.

What does it mean? Can it be affected by hydration or some other benign alteration to my diet?

Wouldn't it be fantastic if a steady diet of high-quality chocolate and prosecco were discovered as the cure for my double vision?

Actually, what would really be spectacular would be if the medications didn't cause a constant, unending series of horrific side effects that alter any ability to plan my day.

I can't simply say, "Keep calm and carry on! It's only double vision!"

BUT, that's what is going to happen.

New medication means new side effects, schedule changes, and forced flexibility, right?

Headaches and double vision are the side effects du jour, but is the real foreigner the medication or the chronic condition?

I wish I could say stop the "Head Games" or "That Was Yesterday."

Maybe I'll start referring to headaches as "Headknocker(s)" and my hands as "Cold as Ice."
